Austerity is the name of an Italian solo project, created by the Emilian musician Zavo, which is strongly skewed toward ambient drone sounds that only minimally lead back to the funeral proper. The track that most clearly bears that mark is also the last one released under this moniker, namely Those Nightmares Rides With You, Europe included within the split album with Black Temple Below (2013). Austerity‘s production kicks off in 2005, with the demo Perpetua Nox Dormienda Est, within which Zavo offers four tracks for a total of 75 minutes; the subsequent self-titled full length of 2009 maintains similar coordinates, between references to the most cultured and rarefied ambient and moments of drone distortion.
