Music is that thing that, often, after a certain listening makes you say: I must have this record. This happened to me recently with Postvorta from Ravenna, after having listened to them on Solo Macello Fa Anche I Coperchi, one of the compilations of the Solo Macello regaz who, as usual, don’t get one wrong. Postvorta are heaven for those who, like me, live on Neurosis and Isis, and for those who have Mogwai in their blood; their musical stigmata are the aforementioned names, but this is only the starting point for a highly personalised and extremely valuable declination. This debut album is a jewel; every note, every passage, is a concentration of emotions, of exploding sounds, of subterranean explorations, of screams and love. From the very first song, We’re Nothing, you can find yourself with your arms in the air, at many moments you will sway your head, at others you will cry, because this record is all of that, including a magnificent cover of Massive Attack’s Angel. You will soon realise that this is not just a debut as Postvorta have always been inside you, inside the music you have heard, of which this is a fantastic compendium. Postvorta is an original Roman goddess, in the sense that she is not the result of syncretism: she was the goddess of the past as opposed to Antevorta, and she gave birth to breech babies; this is not a coincidence because Postvorta‘s music is a rebirth, a coming forth swimming in a liquid that is their music. There are records that must be yours, and I realise that lately they are almost all Italian: from Selva to Postvorta, passing through Infection Code and many others, there is something in Italy that it would be foolish not to understand and value, that is, the presence of an excellent musical movement, neither alternative nor commercial, that proposes almost handcrafted excellent things. Reckoning Light We Will Set Ourselves On Fire is a very bright peak, honestly I’m not going to ask myself how tomorrow will go for this band, because of tomorrow there is no certainty.
