Depressive black from the United States with the duo Pale From Sunlight, making their debut with this first long-distance work after the eponymous EP released only last February. The genre’s interpretation sees Krullnaag and Vemetrith grappling with the usual sounds tinged with dulling pain that share the stage with the equally canonical heartbreaking vocals. The element of interest for Pale From Sunlight lies, therefore, in the greater rarefaction of the atmospheres, which are never banal and which, in the end, succeed in inducing that sense of inescapable and interminable despondency that DSBM intends to pour over the listener. It’s just a pity that the production fails to make the most of the good compositional work, but those who love such sounds have already turned a deaf ear to this by now. The five tracks of Love Was Never An Option appear however all rather effective even if, for my personal taste, I really appreciated the conclusive Last Sunset, practically a funeral depressive capable of conveying in one go all the existential discomfort that, each in its own way, both genres intend to convey. A good test, however, for a band that places itself with good ease in the wake of the best American school that sees Xasthur and Dhampyr as standard-bearers.
