The Rimini-based Deadly Carnage celebrate ten years of activity with the publication of this 7″ entitled Chasm. We had already dealt with this excellent band on the occasion of their last full length, Manthe, which photographed in a clear way what had been the artistic evolution from the early black metal. The post black, or as you prefer to call it, that the band from Romagna is offering us in recent years, is the most valuable we can hear in this particular stylistic segment, at least in our parts, and the two songs contained in the ep confirm this feeling. Night Was The End starts in a more delicate way, evoking in some way the autumn colors exhibited by the magnificent cover, and then evolves into openings that combine melody to harshness, always led by a scream that communicates a constant sense of deep uneasiness, barely mitigated by the gentler guitar arpeggios. Hole Of Mirrors accentuates more the dramatic tension of Deadly Carnage‘s sound, which gives us a truly beautiful track, accompanied by a video capable of transposing on image the discomfort and the evil of living evoked by music and lyrics. Especially in this last song a parallelism arises spontaneously with another band evolved over the years, starting from black metal up to go to forms of expression strongly contaminated by other genres, such as Secrets Of The Moon. Deadly Carnage privilege more the post metal moods compared to the progressive gothic ones exhibited by the Germans, but it remains in common that attitude effectively represented by a sound in constant evolution and, above all, aimed at every single juncture to transmit tangible emotions to the listener. Chasm is an offer to which who loves art and good music should not escape.
