At This Great Depth is the second ep for the Irish band Soothsayer, after the self-titled debut released last year. The two long tracks that make up the work are steeped in a form of doom that is defined as atmospheric but, in fact, appear much closer to some post metal in its harshest passages, also accomplice a vocal interpretation similar to those of bands like Amenra, for example. This occurs mainly in the first track, Umpire, which after a liquid beginning winds in a sound stream full of an angry emotional tension. The doom label is more suitable to the next track, Of Locusts And Moths, also very valid: here is left a certain space to the lead guitar that weaves melodies of a value although it is, from time to time, streaked by sudden accelerations that well go to vary the rhythms without making the sound fragmentary. A work of considerable interest that could find admirers even among those who appreciate the post-hardcore less extreme, so it remains only to wait for the band of Cork to the first test on long distance, in the light of a writing ability that should allow pushing on a higher length without suffering any backlash.
