After a few years of activity already quite significant, the Swedish Gloson arrive at the debut on long distance with Grimen, work that shows mostly positive notes. The sludge with atmospheric connotations, which often dissolves in a post metal with melancholic tones, is certainly effective, although not unprecedented. But what counts is the ability of the band of Halmstad to emotionally involve the listener thanks to magnificent melodic intuitions, expressed in particular in the wonderful Antlers. Just in the atmospheric moments, Grimen becomes more intense and able to offer memorable passages, well integrated with the robustness of sludge that, often, are manifested in a distorted muddiness in the first parts of the songs, letting then the sound find more breath becoming more airy: this happens substantially in the first four tracks (Prowler, Fabulist, Antlers and Cringe) while the shorter Specter is a mostly acoustic track, except for a violent explosion in its central phase, and the conclusive Embodiment presents several changes of rhythm and atmospheres putting an end to a convincing work on the whole line. The merit of Gloson is, after all, not to overlap ideas and ideas in a disorderly manner, as often happens to those who want to impress at all costs, leaving instead the sound flow in a linear manner in the fluid alternation of the souls sludge and post metal and giving a work of great value to fans of both genres.
