Still talking about instrumental post metal, here we are with the second full length of the English Telepathy. Beginning to become a formula rather inflated, it becomes more and more complex but even more necessary to try to separate rags from silk, which precisely not easy, since often such outputs are united by an equal technical skill of the musicians and good melodies supported by a strong metal framework. You just have to filter all this according to a subjective criterion represented by the ability of involvement that an album manages to induce, thus putting the emotional aspect before the mainly technical one, and Telepathy rightly enter to be part of those bands that have succeeded in this intent. Probably my personal liking comes from a certain inclination for fuller and muddier sounds of sludge doom matrix that alternate wisely to the more liquid passages, creating that contrast that is one of the essential aspects of post-metal; where, however, the British band makes a difference is in exhibiting a rare gift of synthesis, in the sense that each step is functional to the structure of the songs, keeping away from the arid technicality. That’s how Tempest ends up offering about forty minutes of beautiful music, as I said almost all instrumental if we make an exception for Echo Of Souls, where in a sort of post-black mutation in the central part peeps out a scream. Overall, the album unravels in a more than convincing way, making feel less than what normally happens the lack of vocals, by virtue of a changing pace, where the most robust guitar outbursts are preparatory to rarefied passages, marked by melodic and delicate arpeggios. With the two peaks, in my opinion, found in the beautiful Celebration Of Decay and Metanoia, Tempest turns out to be a work that shows no weaknesses in any aspect, be it the compositional one rather than the technical execution or the production. So, as we said in the introductory phase, despite the wide and qualified competition, the work of Telepathy deserves to be placed in the right evidence, in the light of a depth of sound that gives new and pleasant sensations at each subsequent listening.
