If The Triumph Of Ruin coincided with the arrival to a less diluted and more song-like form of The Howling Void‘s funeral death doom, the new The Darkness At The Edge Of Dawn almost traces the title of one of Springsteen’s masterpieces but certainly does not mark the transition to singer-songwriting tones – although I’m not entirely sure that Wilson’s choice was random – appearing if anything the ideal continuation of the lines pursued with the previous work, sometimes moving towards soft post-rock tones with intimate traits that, more than the distance from the canonical funeral, are striking for the fact of being born from the same compositional mind of Intestinal Disgorge.
