Always from the rich quiver of Naturmacht here comes this remarkable product from the southern hemisphere. Wending Tide is the name of one of the not so frequent musical realities coming from New Zealand and brought to our attention: the biographical notes about it are almost nil so we don’t know anything else, if not the fact that we are in the presence of a one man band. So we have to talk about the music offered, which is an excellent atmospheric black metal with a strong North American imprint, something that is made explicit without too many turns of phrase since the titles of the two central tracks Cascading Auburn I and II; a strong melodic sense pervades each of the four tracks in which is offered an exemplary cross-section of that black metal with dreamy traits that sometimes borders on shoegaze. In these twenty minutes Wending Tide offer beautiful melodic glimpses that can not leave indifferent, because on the other hand is not sacrificed the basic structure of the genre, without sacrificing the scream or the usual rhythmic outbursts to support the harmonic flow created by the guitar tremolo. The Painter has the only defect of being an ep, because at the end of Pastel Light remains a strong desire to listen as soon as possible to new material from this talented musician from New Zealand.
