John, The Void are one of the best Italian post metal bands and they prove it amply with this new work, III – Adversa. Their style is an ethereal yet heavy meeting of post rock and post metal, with a strong injection of keyboards that renders some atmospheres very well. The tracks are sonic scaffolds that go beyond the concept of song form and take it to a very high level. At some junctures, to give parameters, we come close to that sound brought forward by Isis, a mixture of post metal and sludge, with the same ability to approach the American band’s heaven. III – Adversa is a record with many layers, different levels of reading and listening, it is something very rich and alive, it possesses an ethereal physicality, it is a click that triggers thoughts different from the normal ones. At some junctures it even touches on the best ambient, all with great production that working the sounds manage to make them sound their best. John, The Void‘s best ability is to have a lot of stimulation, good listening and a lot of creativity, and to channel it all to the best of their ability, producing great work. The pace of this group from Pordenone is of the important and majestic kind, the trajectory points upward and never downward. Listening is always the best area to get an idea and go to understand what this record is all about, but suffice it to say that in a song like Silent Bearer there are at least five different genres in it, including even post black metal, all with great consistency and compactness. Recently a person who understands a lot more about music than I do said something to me that is quite enlightening, both in its simplicity and its truth: today’s underground is less powerful than it was thirty years ago, but there are fantastic things that we would never have been able to either hear or know about without the net and current possibilities. Here, John, The Void‘s record reflects this situation very well, because it is beautiful and is within the reach of anyone who wants to hear it. (M.Argo – MetalEyes 13/4/2019).
