The Howling Void – Bleak And Everlasting

Ryan Wilson’s declared intention to go back to playing funeral music is realised with Bleak And Everlasting, a work that, while on one hand represents a definite step backwards compared to the post openings of his last two works, on the other hand it doesn’t automatically mean a slavish repetition of the sounds of The Howling Void‘s beginnings. Of course, the funeral comes back to the proscenium, but incorporating those more intimate traits present in The Darkness At The Edge of Dawn with magnificent results: Bleak And Everlasting does not represent the classic retreat into a comfortable past, but a better focusing of an uncommon compositional vis, able to give many moments of emotional gratification not so obvious.
