Brazilians Jupiterian are not only the leading band in South American sludge doom, but can rightfully be considered among the most relevant ones on a planetary level. The Paulist band emerged with overbearance in the second half of the last decade with the promising death doom of Aphotic, which was followed in 2017 by the monolithic Terraforming, an album that shifted the sound towards the current coordinates while also creating some stability problems for the earth axis. The new Protosapien partially smoothes some angles without attenuating the sense of oppression wisely evoked by Jupiterian, whose substantial merit is to propose sounds of rare heaviness while maintaining a melodic component that appears punctually carving out adequate and fundamental spaces in the economy of the album.
