The Mexican band Matalobos stood out a few years ago with a good long-distance debut titled Arte Macabro and now they come back with this second work The Grand Splendour of Death, which confirms their skills as good interpreters of melodic death doom. The whole thing is well performed and contains what is required of the subgenre in terms of emotionality and evocative potential. The Latin American origin of the band is not extraneous to the use of several acoustic guitar parts of remarkable good taste and anything but out of context, able to give a touch more personality to a sound that in the most canonical passages easily enters in the wake of the best bands in the sector without, however, showing a marked distinctive sign. This could be one of the ways to pursue without denaturing this interesting León quartet.
