One of the best hidden gems in this 2021 is the debut ep of this French project called Âge ⱡ Total which, in fact, fully unites the members of two bands, Greyfell (stoner doom from Rouen) and Endless Floods (sludge drone from Bordeaux). As is to be expected, the most disparate influences end up converging in a seven-piece line-up, but it must be said that this self-titled ep (lasting about three quarters of an hour) is anything but fragmentary, even if it offers many facets; The range of sounds offered includes a doom base that goes to intersect with electronic pulses and space ambient, psychedelia and industrial sprinkles, with lots of evocative vocals rather than brutal, but without giving up sudden outbursts as in the programmatic third track Metal or some concession to experimentation as in the shorter Carré. The fifteen minutes of the opener L’Armure are a demonstration of inspired and dreamy atmospheric doom, while the equally long and conclusive The Songbird shows at times the heavier and sludge-like face of the ensemble. The experiment can be defined as absolutely successful, corresponding to the sum of the addends and demonstrating how beyond the Alps the idea of scene and the desire to experiment and collaborate with other bands is a natural and well assimilated concept, much less sporadic than what happens within our borders.
