This debut EP by England’s Roots Of The Old Oak, a duo made up of Pete Rowland (guitar, bass and vocals) and Stuart R Brogan (drums and vocals), is worth a listen. Twenty years after being Slaughter of Souls’s part, a short-lived death black band in beginning of theecentury, the two meet up again to play death doom with classic and epic overtones, speckled with a deep growl, and on the whole very enjoyable. The four tracks of Blot last a little more than ten minutes in total, so Roots Of The Old Oak‘s work (an evocative moniker that suits their sound) should be re-evaluated on the occasion of a more substantial test.
