I had already come across Flood Peak at the time of MetalEyes, talking about their 2018 debut full length Plagued by Sufferers. Three years later, I find the band exactly where I imagined, that is, still grappling with a top class post metal sludge and, if what follows is the maintenance of the level already acquired, this should be interpreted as an exclusively positive fact. In fact, it is difficult to progress more when you lay foundations of a certain thickness, so it is good to consolidate a status that is expressed through an EP like Fixed Ritual and a series of songs that reset the breath, forcefully encircling the neck of the listener who only at times is given the opportunity to take a breath of air. Flood Peak untangle themselves optimally between furious paroxysms, muddy slowdowns and liquid moments of waiting, preparatory to the restart of a painful and unstoppable cycle. These guys from Portland have nothing to envy to the most revered names in this field and it’s good that as many people as possible realize it.
