Another interesting musical reality appears on the death doom scene in the Southern hemisphere: they are Malignant Aura, authors of a debut full length of a certain thickness, able to convey and process the best sources of inspiration such as Paradise Lost, Incantation, Hooded Menace, Mournful Congregation, Disembowelment and My Dying Bride (as reported by bandcamp). In fact, the results are faithful to the declaration of intent: the cover artwork by the always creative Paolo Girardi is the ideal gateway to a parallel world of Lovecraftian memory that the band from Brisbane depicts musically in the best possible way, thanks to six long tracks sufficiently different from each other for rhythm and impact, even if the first part seems to be more oriented to the death component of the sound while the second one presents with frequency the canonical slowdowns of doom matrix. A pushed track like In a Timeless Place Beneath the Earth is compensated by the sorrowful pace of A Soliloquy Beneath the Sepulchre, while in other moments the two tendencies intertwine and merge without diminishing the overall intensity of the work. Abysmal Misfortune Is Draped Upon Me is the first real and important manifestation (if you do not want to take into account the demo dating back five years ago) of the Australian quintet of which little else is known but, as often happens, is more than enough what is revealed by the music offered.
