Remarkable debut ep for the Scottish band Void Of Light, authors of a powerful sludge doom, concise and full of airy openings as well as well-controlled and never an end in itself. The three tracks of the self-titled work total close to half an hour in length, so this first taste promises to be very full-bodied as well as tasty. These British guys possess a distinct melodic sense through which they give their sound an aura constantly imbued with a dimmed melancholy, even at times when they unleash all the power at their disposal. Scion, Harbinger and A Higher Order are songs devoid of weaknesses, and Void Of Light, in their balanced oscillation between slugde, death doom, and post metal, forgo contrived digressions by focusing on offering an extremely precise and engaging sound. Already, this first step proves to be a work not to be missed under any circumstances but, if these are the premises, we will hear a lot more about this remarkable band in the future.
