Vandrer – Consummation of the Ages

Fourth full length in two years for Vandrer, solo project of Ole Hell, also responsible for the excellent Shepherds Crook. What the Norwegian musician offers is, as before, an instrumental sludge doom in which he tries his hand at all instruments except for the support of a session drummer. Consummation of the Ages traces the structure of the previous Rising from the Tomb of Matter, with its three tracks for a little over half an hour in total duration, and similarly offers a wide range of compositional solutions capable of making an album without vocal contribution compelling, which is anything but obvious. In the first track Abomination of Desolation interesting heavy metal guitar cues emerge, while the subsequent, shorter Iron Mixed with Miry Clay is characterised by more disturbed and pressing rhythms. In the concluding title track, Ole indulges in fifteen minutes of exploration of the different components that come together in Vandrer‘s sound. Another convincing test and, above all, enjoyable test thanks to an admirable fluidity of the proposal.
