Letargiya is the second full length for Aeon of Eternal, a one-man band that last year released a convincing debut album, The Wanderer; Polish-born Aeon guides his creature along a rather varied path that winds between atmospheric spurts, black metal accelerations and melodic cues straddling post metal and doom, achieving a result of a certain merit. While a few minor imperfections may surface, mainly stemming from the DIY matrix of the project, an immediate counterbalance comes from a sound that is inspired and always aimed at evoking an epic feel. Aeon is helped by the voices of two guests, Soulpacifica’s female and Sebastian Bracht’s male one, which lend a pleasant choral sense to the whole, smoothing out the leader’s rougher timbre; a track like Volcano, already released as a single, can be taken as emblematic of an album that, broadly speaking, could remind one at times of the work of A Forest of Stars stripped of their Victorian musical aesthetics. Letargiya is a release worthy of attention precisely for a varied and nuanced performance, capable of satisfying listeners by different stylistic preferences.
