FDK is a Czech band that had given good signs of itself at the end of the first decade of the century with two full lengths (Borderline – 2008 and Earthlinked -2010), only to remain silent until last year with the release of the two singles Time Is Truth and Prayer For The Sunlight, forerunners of the new album Sunlight, a work of a certain merit that makes one regret the prolonged hiatus. In fact, in this work we find all the ideal components of what can be defined, as always very vaguely, as post-metal or post-rock, in the form of a melodic vein that is always very well defined and a series of songs with a linear development and always capable of appropriately involving the listener. If perhaps there remains some small defect in the use of clean vocals, this is abundantly cancelled by a first-rate compositional ability and, above all, by the band’s skill in not slavishly following the footsteps of the leading names in the genre, also introducing into the sound pleasant and effective post-punk veins that can be found at certain junctures in the guitar and bass work. Therefore, despite the fact that in such area it is difficult to invent something new, FDK manage to provide proof of a certain personality and, above all, really enjoyable from the first to the last minute.
